How to compress an image
Drop an image onto the box above (or click to choose a file). Drag the quality slider to trade detail for a smaller file — the before and after sizes update instantly — then click Download JPG. Nothing is uploaded; it all happens in your browser.
How much can you compress?
Photos and screenshots often shrink by 50–80% with little visible change. Start around 70% quality and lower it until the size is small enough while the image still looks clean — the live saving readout makes the trade-off easy to see.
Questions
Is this image compressor free?
Yes — completely free, with no account, no watermark, and no file-size limit. It compresses in your browser using the Canvas API, so there is nothing to meter.
Do my images get uploaded to a server?
No. The whole process runs on your device, so your image never leaves your browser. That makes it instant and completely private.
How does the quality slider work?
We re-encode your image as a JPEG at the quality you choose. Lower quality means a smaller file; drag the slider and the after-size and saving update straight away so you can balance size against sharpness.
Why is the result a JPG?
JPEG compression gives the biggest size reduction for photos and screenshots. Any transparency is flattened onto white, and you get a single compact JPG to download.
